ROBERT L. POPER May 30, 1931 - May 26, 2018 ELKHART- Robert L. Poper, 86, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday May 26, 2018. He was born May 30, 1931 in Hudson, Michigan to the late Henry W. & Lily M. (Riehle) Poper. On June 27, 1964 he married Barbara A. Wilkinson. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2005. Surviving are 2 daughters; Kay L. Poper (Fiancé Michael Mascola, Sr.) of Elkhart, Dru Ann Thomas of Albion, IN; 2 grandchildren, Donald Murphy of Auburn, IN, Katherine Mort of Avilla, IN; 3 great-grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Robert graduated in 1949 from Elkhart High School. He was a US Army veteran serving from 1950 - 1953 and he enjoyed reading and watching sporting events on TV. Robert worked for the New York Central Railroad and for Conrail and retired after 44 years of service. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 30, 2018 at the funeral home and burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery.
