Carol Anne Brough

ELKHART- Carol Anne (Miller) Brough, 80, formerly of Edwardsburg, Michigan, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at EastLake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Elkhart, Indiana on September 23, 1936 to Frederick E. Miller and Helen M. (Schwyn) Miller, Carol grew up and lived for many years in Elkhart. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1954, then married Thomas Brough of Bicknell, Indiana on October 1, 1955. She is survived by her daughter, Marianna Brough (Chuck Rogers) of Bloomington, Indiana; and her son, Matthew Brough (Mary) and grandson Nolan, of Highland, Indiana. Also survived by step-grandchildren Michael Rogers and Nicole Rogers. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents and grandparents; and her infant son, Michael Thomas Brough. Carol spent many happy hours gardening, camping, traveling, and socializing with family and friends. Although she was mainly a homemaker, she was a one-time employee of C. G. Conn and of LaBour Pump Company. She was a long-time member of First Evangelical United Brethren Church of Elkhart; and a member of Xi Alpha Omicron Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Carol served as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter; volunteered in the concessions stand for her son's Little League team; and served as room mother at both children's elementary school. She was a published poet, the National Library of Poetry's Best Poems of 1997, included her poem, Moon Over Beech Grove. A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home, 700 E. Jackson Blvd., Elkhart, on Saturday, September 16, 2017, beginning at 2:00 PM EDT. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior. Pastor Tom DeFries will officiate. Interment will be in Rice Cemetery, Elkhart.
